Casa de Esperenza - How We Build
We approach every project with a spirit of excellence. In the development of our ministry property in Mexico, we look at various aspects of materials before deciding to build with them: their quality, cost, longevity, maintenance requirements, and ease with which to work. We take the same approach in the ministry of Casas de Esperanza (Homes of Hope). Our goal is to build with durable products that reduce the amount of maintenance a family will have to perform for the first 10 to 15 years, allowing them to become more financially stable. This helps to set healthy patterns that are modeled for the next generation. We also want their homes to have longevity, thus being multigenerational.
The basic home structure is 20’ by 24’. It has a main entrance doorway, a small kitchen, living space, two bedrooms, and a small bathroom. Each area has at least one window, and walls are insulated for greater environmental efficiency. The home is designed with a durable metal roof and texture-coated walls to stand up to the dusty, windy, hot climate. The interior and exterior walls are finished, and we provide a bathtub, toilet, and sink.
The goal is to construct a home in 7 to 8 working days. The present material and overhead costs are $9,500 US dollars per home. As the process is streamlined with experience, we hope to decrease the price where possible through choices of materials and economies of scale. We will also pair teams up to construct homes together to minimize costs per team.
At this time, our goal is to build 5 homes per year, adding to that total once interest in the program increases.
"This is so much more than just building a house. It's following the model that Jesus gave us. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, and ministered to the poor." – YWAM EP-J Staff Member
